1948 A7 oil seal replacement

I have a 1948 rigid A7 that has sprung a leak from one of the forks. I currentlt have said fork in bits with a replacement oil seal ready to go in. The problem I have is that I haven't got the official BSA tool for dismantling the chromed oil seal holder from the lower fork. I have tried a car type oil filter strap to no avail. Is there another way around this, or do I need to buy the official tool?

The tool is very easy to make if you can get a piece of tube. I made mine to basic size and then kept filing a bit off until it fitted. The tube is 42mm od and the two engement flats are 13mm wide and 4.5mm high. Get down to the scrap yard see what you can find. It's more fun this way. All the best
