Motomartin,
patience is a virtue...!    ;)

I suspect the reason that nobody has answered is that nobody has the answer....

And, yes in my experience, people do read this forum - including some extremely knowledgeable experts who have answered some real tough ones.  This (thank goodness!) hasn't turned into a chat forum where folks pass away their idle hours when there's nothing on the TV.  Instead it has proved to be a place where questions get answered - even though it may take a while to get there.

If it is possible to identify the bike from the picture, I'm sure you will get a response sooner or later.
Cheers
PeteR.

Sorry we didn't all jump to it immediately (please remind us all how much you are paying for this 'service'?) But trying to identify a motorcycle of that age from grainy, blurred and faded old photos is bad enough from a side view at times, but looking from head-on makes any identification very difficult indeed.

I'll start the ball rolling by saying it is late 20's, possibly very early 30's as acetylene lights & hand change were rapidly on the way out by 1933-34.
Once Velocette introduced the foot change in the late 20's the majority of enthusiasts couldn't get it quick enough. Try working a handchange on a rough road with girder forks bouncing away in front of you and the advantage of footchange are very obvious.
Same with acetylene lights. Electric lights were readily available on expensive bikes or on a cheap Villiers powered lightweight. The price of electric lighting was dropping fast in the early 30's and few riders would choose acetylene lighting over electric.
You might have acetylene lights on your sports racer but that bike is a touring machine, not a sporting one.
I would definitely place the bike as late vintage, early post vintage.
Cheers, Bob

G'day all
Sorry...this one is in the near impossible basket!
Gearchange, single spring front fork, 500cc OHV I imagine by the ex pipe...quite a sporty machine too with those long h/bar grips...and also quite well equiped all may well tell a story but it could one of dozens if not hundreds of bikes!
I always find the early continental machines are hard to identify.
Howard.
