I'm writing a book and I need info
« on: July 09, 2009, 08:44:33 AM »
Hi everybody
First I'm going to introduce myself. My name is Guillermo but you can call me Willy and I write you from Spain.
I'm writing a book about Triumph, the motorcycles I like best, but I need some help.
I'll appreciate any photo, data or anything that might help me with my book. Of course everyone that gives me anything will be mentioned in the book.
IŽm going to publish the book in English and in Spanish from the beginning. It will cover the whole Triumph history with present day photos of restorations, their evolution through time, and many things more.
For anything you'd like (questions, data, etc.) IŽll be here.
Thanks in advance
Greetings

Hello Willy,
Google "Triumph" and you'll probably find out everything from how long the Ricardo was made for, to what Edward Turner's last meal consisted of.

I should imagine the hard part now is writing anything which hasn't already been written and rehashed several times over. For a relatively small company, there's been an awful lot of books written about it.....

I suggest you read Whatever Happened to the British Motorcycle Industry? by Bert Hopwood, if you haven't already.  This is a fine well-written account of Hopwood's career in and involvement with British motorcycles, and gives a great deal of insight of the many people 'behind the scenes' at the Triumph, BSA, Ariel and Norton works.  This insight extends to the management, financial workings and last-ditch plans underway at BSA/Triumph in the early 1970s and is, in my opinion at least, the best available reference for the business side of the Triumph saga.

Thank you for your answers.
I've everything that comes out from Google but I need more.
There aren't so many books about Triumph and some of them are done without  a real investigation about the models or the fabric or both. They are very basic and I'm trying to solve that.
Hopwood's book is fine I've already read it. But I need things such as production figures and photos, .
I cannot find any production numbers, nor from de vintage bikes nor from Turner's bikes and nor from post Turner's .
I've found all the technical especs of every model Triumph have made or proyect.
As you see I need help to finish my book. I hope anybody can help me.

I would think Hughie Hancox is the man to contact, he worked at the Triumph factory.

Hi Guillermo,

Have you checked out the booklets I've already written covering all Triumph models from 1902 through to 1934 (less the Val Page models), and the 6-part set inside history of the orginal Triumph company?

Triumphador:  You say "There aren't too many books on Triumph?"
I have over 40 of them on my book shelf, and there are probably several more which I do not have.
I do not see what you can add that has not already been written.
Also, if you are looking for photos of "restored" Triumphs, please do your readers a favor and have the photos checked by a Triumph expert to be sure the bikes are ACCURATE restorations.

Dear friend
I've read more than forty books as the investigation.
I'm a great fan of Triumph and the reason for writing this book is that I didn't find a book that tells the story the way I'm showing it.
When the book is ready you will know why.
Till then... I still need help if you like to cooperate.
P.D. I'm working with international Triumph experts to confirm the accuracy.
