Importing classics

Anybody give me some pointers on what to expect importing a 1950s Indian from the US to the UK from tax and registration point of view?

I've got some ideas on the transport but it's the legalities of importing and road-legalling that I'm completely green on. Thought this forum a good place to start.

It's easy, but you must get a SORN certificate.
With it it's all straight forward, and without it, it's impossible.
{Despite what the "experts" may say, you can get a SORN cert some after importation, but it's all just easier if you do it at the time}
