Harley 7/9 value
« on: January 28, 2006, 06:36:29 PM »
Hi, I have some parts for a late '20's 1000cc Harley. All have been stored since the late '60's. They are; Motor 1929, was running when removed from bike, Gearbox 1926, includes clutch, kickstart - cases etc in good condition, spins freely, no internal rust, but gears worn - has original greenish paint. Wheels, front excellent, rear some deep pitting from under rubber gaiter, a couple of broken spokes, visually good, includes sprockets and speedo drive, handlebars, rear guard, some dings, surface rust, not deeply pitted but no paint. Generator - looks OK, probably working, magneto assembly, with points, coil etc.
Can you help me with an approximate value. I have been away from motorcycles for some time and have lost the feel for bike values. Obviously, I won't hold anyone to their suggestions, but would be interested in your approximations. Items are currently NOT for sale - I'm not trying to prime up a sale, just trying to be a little wiser!

Your best bet is to monitor ebay antique american bikes section for  few weeks. The parts you describe appear there frequently and you should be able to gauge their market value from the prices on ebay (give or take a few stupid bids).

If you were to sell the collection of parts as a whole you will get more than parting them out individually.
