Hello All.

I recently dug an old bike out of the back of a woolshed that my grandfather used to ride.

She runs a Villiers Mk X11C Long-stroke 148cc 2 stroke engine, Burman HU 4 speed gearbox, Webb pressed steel girder forks and the rims run 3.00 - 19 rubber.

So far the identification numbers I have found are stamped on......

Magneto 4P7 2917 (second two digits could be wrong, hard to read)
Gearbox HU 25154
Frame L 7959

I would appreciate any help in find out exactly what it is.

Any chance of a pic from the other side.
That engine looks like it is welded in there, seems very high in the frame ??
Looks mid to late 30s, assuming all belong together ?
Not too many makers used a Burman box ?
3.00 - 19 seems like very wide tyres for the time, you'd expect 2.75 -19.

Is there any more of it somewhere ?

agreed on mid to late thirties.
tire is possibly 2.00 - 19, I may not have remembered correctly (will double check)
Motor is bolted in an looks more upright than you would expect within the frame.
Granddad was a mechanic, an thus it is highly possible things may have been altered.
I have not managed to find one single picture of anything with a similar rear subframe setup......
Unfortunately this is all we have managed to find hence trying to identify so as to get a hold of some guards etc.

Could be a 30s Excelsior ?

No guarantee your engine is correct/fitted correctly for your bike though.

P.S. Mudguards in this pic appear to be held up by anti-gravity ??
