bosch mag german ?

this mag has come fitted to a engine (stanley i think) but notice it has NEW YORK stamped on the body , has anyone any idea why

Bosch has apparently been in business in the USA since 1906.
Believing that the new fangled magneto, 1902, was a real winner.
"By 1914, 70% of Bosch's worldwide sales (magnetos) were in the U.S."

And with a reported 350 subsiduary businesses, was/is quite an empire....

We see these occasionally out here in Australia. Presumably they were fitted originally to single cylinder Indians and Harley Davidsons from 1912 (when the "waterproof" design was first used) into the early 1920s. Viewed from the drive end, most Bosch magnetos are anticlockwise, to suit the usual British setup of chain drive from a gear-driven cam. Many of the New York magnetos are clockwise because of the gear drive used on American bikes.

thanks , this one is clockwise from the drive end
