The second drive side bearing came in late 1936,and crankcases are interchangeable from then to 1960[excluding 250s and scramblers],so I expect that was when this was introduced.I know that slopers and 1935 models were nt dowelled. So I vote for late 1936,I think YY numbers.Might be wrong.Regards John.

HT/HS - nice. There is a very active Ariel Forum run by the Ariel Owners Motor Cycle Club http://forum.arielownersmcc.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=21 and you don't have to be a member of the club to participate.

I believe the dowels were added in 54.  There are three HS cams 54mk1 56mk1 and the mk111 cam the 56 cam in the hottest cam out the three.  I have a 54mk1 cam in my 48 NH.
Mid range power is excellent and top speed is higher.
I also have a 56mk1 cam I'm saving for my next project.
