If Moss or Sturmey Archer I would only use oil (and let it leak)
The reason being is that both makers offered boxes that ran the steel mainshaft directly in the steel sleeve gear
Grease will block the tiny oil groove, (in my opinion)
I have a Moss gearbox for my Chater Lea, and it has been a major project to repair it
Moss boxes very often do not have a makers name on them
