Honda CB250RS Cush Drive Bushes
« on: May 09, 2019, 08:42:18 PM »
Evening all,

A current project following a rest from my old Bantam is a 1980 Honda CB250RS, which is undergoing full restoration. I have managed to remove the worn out sprocket cush drive rubber bushes (after much cursing) and now I need to find new replacements. This seems to be easier said than done. David Silver do not list them and cannot get any (Now discontinued). I have ordered them twice online from two different ebay sellers and they have sent the wrong ones on both occasions (the much smaller ones for the Xl125 it appears) and don't seem to be able to help with the correct ones.

Am I correct in saying that they have the same part number at the start and the difference is in the end part number? This could be where they are getting confused with their parts lists. I have not quoted any numbers I have left it to them.

Anyway the point of my topic is : Where can I get them? I am running out of ideas would a supplier of rubber suspension car type bushes be any good? Would they be the right type? Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry to go on a bit I am  getting a bit frustrated with this , Oh the joy of old bikes!

Cheers John

Do you have a parts book or microfiche that covers your model,
and/or do you know the correct part numbers for these ?
Essential for chasing up obscure stuff that no-one knows by sight.
A pic of what the old ones look like may be helpful too, if they are still recognisable.
Or a pic of the housing where they came from.

You tried the main Honda importer where you are ?
Honda used to have a policy that no older part would go unsupplied,
and has a central warehouse someplace that must stock a lot of stuff !
They airfreight as/where required around the globe, and this (apparently)
costs (much)  less than stocking stuff all over the place.

Its extremely unlikely car parts could be substituted, there must be squillions of varieties of rubber bits,
but an eagle eyed parts salesman may be able to advise. They are a vanishing breed these days though,
its all new hires and a computer that knows everything - but refuses to give away secrets !

Sometimes the wreckers are a useful source of such stuff, although finding a low mileage back wheel etc
for the right year/model may be wishful thinking ? But you can ask...

Honda used to have a policy that no older part would go unsupplied,

I've heard that but it isn't true. CB450 Black Bomber swinging arm spindles and bearings being a case in point. Rear brake shoes were also unobtainable at that time, but they can always be relined.

There are some 250RS enthusiasts here: http://www.thumperclub.com/smf/index.php - may be worth asking?

I've heard that but it isn't true.

It was true at some point ?. My father accepted a late 1950s Benly as payment for something, and a big end bearing had gone.
Honda advised they were having some made, but the time frame was long and vague. And expensive ?
Other means were found to repair it.

I'd be surprised if those cush rubbers weren't in stock someplace in the world.
I ran into someone who had a stock of 40,000 sets of piston rings for something not common,
and he figured he had 10,000 years supply at current demand ...

If you are certain you have the correct Honda part number try Honda as I have found some older parts still listed as they are used on newer bikes.
I assume you have tried here
https://www.cmsnl.com
Good but can be more expensive than Honda
Would it not be possible to cut some down or cut some from the appropriate grade rubber sheet?
