Honda CX500 tank wanted
« on: November 05, 2022, 10:01:31 AM »
This is a long shot but I'm modifying an XBR500 to do away with the giant petrol tank and am looking for a CX500 tank in useable condition. In the UK. Thanks for looking!

Blimey, how big's the tank on the XBR then if you want a smaller one off a CX?
I always thought that the big bloated tank on the CX added to it's reputation as being a fat ugly b*stard.. ;)

OK, I see your point there.
Aren't you going to lose the side panels and the rear section in the change though too?
That yellow tank really highlights that the tank badge and tank lower edge aren't parallel. I'd paint the lower 2" of the tank black if it were mine and try and disguise Soichiro's lack of aesthetic appreciation.

I think something like a 1970s CB250 tank might fit better.

People have used the CB250 tank but it needs a lot of bashing around underneath and is also on the short side. I'm going to keep the side panels and original (but modified) seat. I'll fill the badge mountings and use a wing type decal plus probably gold lining. I expect problems but solving them is what winter's for....

I have found a candidate tank that looks in reasonably sound condition. There were a lot of CXs around.....

Tanks I've seen have rusted from the inside out so not really much to do with Pomland (Rustland) at all.
