Triumph GP Engine Number Question
« on: November 09, 2005, 01:15:14 AM »
Hello. Does anyone know if the Triumph GP's ( 1948-1950 )had a special engine number and if each GP engine number followed in sequence.

If they did have a certain unique number to set them appart from other Triumph engines then what was it? I know that my Grandfathers GP bike was number T100 97021 R and frame number TF 20015 R. Did the 'R' on the end each time stand for racing?  Hope someone can help! Cheers Phil

Hi,
All Grand Prix T-100's have a letter "R" suffix following engine and frame numbers. By 1950 all frame and engine numbers were matching. Engine number 97021R would date from 1948, but I948 frame number went from TFI 5001 to TF2500 and year 1949 was TF 25001 to TF 33615. All factory records now are held by the VMCC so drop them an e-mail www.vmcc.net who may be able to shed some more light, and also try www.tomcc.demon.co.uk, the Triumph owners club,
