Title: Indentifying Ariel Square Four
Post by: jfarrell71 on March 21, 2007, 08:41:27 PM
Picked up an Ariel Square Four at an estate sale a few weeks ago, and am trying to first figure out what year it is.  Former owner said 1938, but engine codes and frame codes indicate 1948.  Engine code: CJ356, Frame Code: AX1087

Photos of the Ariel can also be seen at:

I'll probably be looking for parts in the future also

Thanks
J

The engine and frame numbers do appear to identify it as a 1948 plunger square four, and the photo shows it certainly looks like it is a post-war model.

Does the gearbox have the matching G32 or G49 D48 date code?
