??? I have a 1974, 750 that does not seem to run right. It has been worked on and someone has run lines connecting the ports at the tops of the carbs together and it will not run when they are connected but if you take one of these hoses off of the carb it will run but it stumbles and accellerates slower than it should. Please help because I am frustrated with this thing.

The T140 intake manifolds normally have a balance pipe conecting them together? Is that what you mean?
If not, then I don't inderstand what you mean by "lines connecting the ports at the tops of the carbs" (the carb top is usually understood to be where the control cables enter the carb)-more info please?

When I say ports at the top of the carbs I am talking about what looks to be vacuum ports or vent ports or one might call them nipples just about an inch down from the cap.

Then you appear to have some sort of non-standard setup or non-standard carbs as far as I can tell?
Is there any chance you can post a photo or photos of that arrangement?
This is what the standard T140V (1973-78) carbs ought to look like.
