Title: Triumph 5ta Distributor
Post by: brade911 on December 24, 2011, 08:46:24 AM
Hi does anyone know if a Lucas Distributor model no DKX2A type R021 no 404498 will fit a 1959 unit Triumph 5TA.

If it won't fit, does anyone know what model will work

Thanks

The correct distributor is a Lucas 18D2. As fitted to my 1959 5TA.
Without checking, I think the one you quote is a pre-unit distributor with different fitting and centrifugal advance characteristics. I think that the drive shaft will be too short for a TA bike and also different.
I think a 3TA distributor will fit physically, but that is likely to have the wrong centrifugal advance characteristics too.
Jim.

i think the 3ta and 5ta dizi are identical ie both have mechanical advance with the same range
the one on my 1958 3ta is marked model 18D2

404498

I think the number is probably 40449B (or A?) not 404498?

However, as others have said, you need the 18D2 type. The original 1959 5TA unit would have been 18D2 40646 or 40646B).
