Title: 1961 royal enfield crusader
Post by: brooksie on February 24, 2007, 05:17:55 AM
I now have the thing started ( quite well to ) it ticks over quietly but as soon as you pull the throttle back it makes a horrible noise.I have checked the tappets again and although they have set ok the pushrods seem to have quite a bit of play in them, could the cams be 'nacked ?
The noise is not like a rumbling but a more severe rocker noise from that area.
Could the big end be gone ??   rockers shot ??
Any thoughts much welcome.   cheers. ???

Are you sure you have a standard model with standard cams, as the valve clearance settings vary?

The Sports Crusader clearances (from the Roy Bacon Enfield book) being 0.002"in/0.004ex
and the Super 5 being NIL in/0.002"ex.

Maybe member TERMINATOR can give more assistance?
