Title: New Imperial - what model/year?
Post by: johking on May 31, 2016, 08:52:19 PM
Can anyone say what model/year this New Imperial m/bike is? I am guessing the photos were taken in the early 20s (husband's grandfather).

Many thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

Jo

Looks like its going to be just post WW1.

This, said to be a 1918, looks rather similar.

This is mentioned as a Model 7, with a 1000cc  JAP engine (sidevalve v-twin).
(engines made in Tottenham in London)

Great photos !
This was luxury motorcycling in its day, but do note the bicycle type brake on the front wheel !!.
It may take someone very familiar with these models to give a definitive exact year,
they were usually quite similar for years and years...

Oh that's great, thank you very much indeed. That's just what I was hoping for. It does look remarkably similar and that fits with the dates. Lovely to see the green colour and the leather case at the back.

The bicycle-style brake is crazy, hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it.

He probably spent quite a bit on it plus sidecar....
