Title: Ariel VB 600 piston option
Post by: TONY REGAN on August 13, 2016, 09:15:20 AM
Good morning, I have a well worn standard 86.4mm VB barrel, early 7 bolt version,36-51' era I think. I'm looking at affordable piston options as even JP's are quoted £140. 87mm seems likely, Bedford were mentioned, I can only find 1980 model near the size. Can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks

Is that buying direct from JP or through a third party?

Have a look at the top thread on this page of the Ariel Owners Club forum: http://forum.arielownersmcc.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=4

If no joy, you can join the forum for free, even if you are not a member of the club.

Good luck.

Tony
What might fit is a Harley Davidson Piston for 1930 - 36 70ci or 1937-49 80ci  which are very similar in size. Usually HD pistons are readily ? available. Size is 86.919 dia, 1 23/32 comp, 3 7/32 length, 20.1 pin dia.  Hepolite # is 7066 or T7857
Orig Ariel piston  was Hepolite # SW11327 86.384 dia, 1 15/16 comp, 3.1155 length and pin 20.61

From what I can gather JP pistons are significantly heavier than the original part.

Had a sneaking feeling about Harley pistons as some use in ohv's I believe. Thanks I'll look at that but always glad to hear of other options. Thanks
