Title: Steel rivets

BSA L29 Anybody know were I can locate some 3/16" x 1" long c/s steel rivets for the crank shaft to fly wheel fixings I have tried evry were including the states who will sell me a min of 5,000 ( i only what 5)

Are they different from the later models ? Gold Star specialists like Len Haggis stock them for Goldies. Their suppliers may be able to help even if the parts differ.

Personally, I've always rather tried to steer clear of engines with rivetted-up crankshafts  :)

Hi Rick,
If you only need 5, you could make them on the lathe, or con a friend into making them for you.
Rudges have the shafts rivetted into the flywheels. An experienced friend once advised me to try everything before resorting to un-riveting the shafts, as they are difficult to re-rivet and get a result which is both tight and true. I have seen some very nice jobs where the rivets have been replaced by high tensile (Unbrako or similar) screws. If you're not an expert riveter this might be a good alternative? (Usual disclaimer: I'm not an engineer!)

I usually procure this type of item ithrough the model engineering fraternity.
There are a fair number of  model engineer mail order houses that regularly sell fixings and fasteners in penny packet numbers.
I suggest you either get a copy of the Model Engineer and look at the ads or find your local model engineering club and ask them.
