Title: BSA A70 - Info wanted
Post by: Blue on January 08, 2009, 01:51:08 PM
G'day,

I'm looking for any information about the BSA A70 750cc twin, simply out of curiosity.  If anybody can direct me to any relevent texts/magazines or what have you, that'd be great.  I read an article in a recent Classic Bike, but it was disappointingly frugal with information about the bike itself, choosing instead to focus on the restoration.  I'm mainly keen to learn about the engine and how it may have differed from the smaller unit twins.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Blue

There does not seem to be a lot of info about them. According to Roy Bacons BSA A50.A65 Twins and all models book the A70L was produced in 1972 for the USA to form the basis of a dirt track machine. To meet the ruling that machines had to be based on road models, BSA had to build at least 200 of them. They were also known as Lightening 75.

There's an A70 Lightning article in the October 1995 issue of Classic Bike: http://www.burtonbikebits.net/Classic%20Bike%20A70%20Lightning.jpg
