Title: Is this a Matchless or AJS?

Can you help me id this bike and parts? I do not have a motor or rear wheel. Here are some part numbers: Smiths Speedo In headlight SM3170-57, big engine cover 24764js, points cover 20864-a, small engine cover 24739js, amal carb intake 22855, tail light lucas l679 sae stbl61. Thanks for the help.

Ed           ps. any idea on the year?

Neither AJS nor Matchless, what you appear to have there is the remains of an electric start Norton 400cc Electra.

The engine side casting is most certainly off an Electra, and the forks are Norton 'Roadholders'. I can also identify the points cover by the casting number "20864" as being from a Norton lightweight twin 250 Jubilee/350 Navigator/400 Electra model.
