Hello, I have this vintage 4 stud bottom mount gearbox that I can't identify. Any ideas please ?
-
What threads are on the studs and nuts ?
-
The threads are imperial. So I guess British or American ?
-
When you say Imperial - Imperial what ?
Will an SAE nut go on the mounting studs ?
Or Whitworth ?
Or 26 tpi british cycle thread .
Very few american threads would be the same as anything english, so this usually sorts out which side of the pond it was made.
The tpi count (threads per inch) may even identify a maker.

Burman, Sturmey Archer, Albion, take your pick.

Its definitely uncommon, not Sturmey, not Burman, not BSA,Sunbeam,Rudge,Triumph,Velo.Threads look 26tpi.but that doesn't rule out a continental box.Might be an own make like New Imperial,or New Hudson.Or a Moss or Jardine.A trip to the NMM might identify it.Regards John.

Definitely not New Imperial.

Studs at the bottom sets it apart. Not many had this.Panther 1930 ish comes to mind for the studs, but its not P&M.Not American,as it could then only be Indian or Harley.(unless its a lot earlier than it looks.)Or it could be from a car or van.I still think maybe continental.Regards John.

Looks rather a French box to me.
I saw one before, but cannot remember on wich make it was fitted.
