Hello
Does anyone know where I can find copies of the articles Mollie Craven used to write in the monthly magazines. I have searched the web but only came up with some kind of Yahoo site that I cannot navigate to any articles except one from 1948.

Do you know which magazines? If you're a VMCC member the library has bound copies of The Motorcycle, Motorcycling etc and will copy pages for you on request. You really do need to go there though.

The Motorcycle, Motorcycling were weeklies not monthlies.
But what were the monthly mags of the 1950s? I know of two but senior moments are blocking their names :-\

I remember ken and mollie cravens articles well, you sure they were not in the weekly mags? I think Motorcycling was the one.

No not sure which magazine they were in, I can remember they were a good unaffected read. some years ago I even replicated part of one of the adventures and rode to Mojocar as a kind of homage. Mojocar, I believe was a annual organised tour of theirs. It's just that I would like to read the tales, at the same time try, by stating an interest, to prevent them slipping into obscurity, seems like I might be too late, but you never know what will turn up.

Cyril Quantrill?
He edited and wrote for a lot of the bike press in those days, quite a well known name in his day.
Parti-tours was the name of the touring runs they organised, to lots of other places than Spain.
Craven panniers were the dogs bits back then; a "factory" in a railway arch in north london, they were very helpful when I went there for fittings for a secondhand carrier I had bought.
Came across as nice people in their articles.

I'm with John - there were Craven articles in Motor Cycle Sport which was a UK monthly. Try around 1978-1980.

Parti- tours were operating in the 1950s as well.

I have all the MCS from about 1972 to around 2000 when it lost all its appeal. If you find the issues you want I may be able to scan them, but I don't really have the time to search all through them for the articles.

Not sure how I can move this forward, thanks for your offer, which I would follow up, but I do not know how to get at the contents pages of the Motorcycle Sport for the 1978-1980 period mentioned above.

If you're anywhere near me (Hall Green) you're welcome to take the relevant boxes away and search them as long as you promise to look after them & return them in good condition.

No not really. Thanks for the offer anyway, I live just North of Stoke. I will keep a look out for some form of reference for the contents and come back to you if I may.
I was down your way when I was sixteen/seventeen. Took my frame by train/bus to get the swinging arm bushes done at the works. I know, I know, must have been mad. Trying to be a perfectionist back then, failed miserably since. Before that visited the works on the back of a work mate who took his Viper in for the same job.

Did Veloce do that sort of work while you waited? I'm impressed.
On the other hand, I recall going to buy some essential part from the local bike shop and being told he never had it (surprise surprise) and had to order it from the works, so come back in four weeks.
The truly sh*te service we put up with in those days!

Yes indeed, although I'd lived here for over 20 years before I actually had a Velo - a Viper that I uprated to Venom spec. Very nice bike too.

Yes they did.
First time, it would have been about 1966, I had nothing to do with it but out of interest and to take the opportunity of a ride on the back of a older apprentices (or he might have just been out of his time) Velo. He had made the arrangements to take it to the works, set off very early, can't remember what time we got there but it would have been not long after 9:30 I would guess. Dropped the bike at a doorway with some kind of counter inside. Wandered around (not the works but outside) went back at the arranged hour and rode home.
Next time a year to eighteen months later, I made arrangements, by letter I presume because we did not have a phone. Went down with a pal on train/bus and waited while they did it. It would have not taken long because the frame was completely bare except for the swinging arm. I cannot remember how much it cost but it must have been fairly cheap, I was doing my work, apprenticeship and a evening/weekend job in a truck body builders to fund my biking passion, but still not a lot of money to spend.
Oddly enough I am still just as daft, going all over the place after odds and sods for bikes. Recently went to Imola where they had a autojumble type event for bikes, to wander around the circuit after spares for old MotoGuzzi, most people would think it strange, seems ok to do it for a holiday to me, beats sitting on a beach.

Hunting around an Italian jumble for parts for an old Guzzi? Most definitely beats sitting on a beach (but then most things do, IMO!)
