Title: Speedometer question

I know the most recent Con & Use Regs state bikes registered after 1984 have to have a speedo capable of displaying kilometers and miles per hour but I have a 1953 Italian bike.  Can I use it in the UK with a KPH speedo?

Back when grey imports were more common there used to be MPH transfer overlays for the speedo dial, don't know if you can still get them though.
In reality, who's ever going to check it anyway?
