Ran one of those for many years until I let a mate talk me out of it. Foolish me.
I see the owner/maker of that particular silencer has made the standard mistake of too large a tail pipe. These old Villiers engines like a bit of back pressure. The original factory silencer used the same 1” tail pipe as fitted to the 98cc James Comet. That particular example looks good but will be both noisier and deliver slightly less power than the original design.
The old factories might not have known as much about two stroke exhausts as taught us by MZ but they knew far more than we give them credit for.

My first ever
bike pile of parts. Got it in exchange for a Matchie gearbox left behind by my Ten Pound Pom brother, and later swapped it for a couple of a quid and an Alice Cooper LP.
A valuable lesson learnt...it's always better cheaper and easier to buy a complete bike than a load of of parts purporting to be most of a bike.
