Hi Nigel,

The Royal Enfield Owners Club hold the original factory ledgers, dating back to the pre war days. With the frame number, they can check what the original engine number must have been, and to whom and when it was sold. Worth a try?

Hi Nigel,

Did you check this thread? http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=10;action=display;num=1186418521

Has your engine a broad arrow stamping with a letter M underneath?

Hi Blue,

Did you try Burton Bike Bits? They're holding a register for the Interceptor: http://www.burtonbikebits.net/royal_enfield_interceptor.htm

On the engine close-up picture that I posted,  there is a "D" for the model, a "/|\ M11" marking which is the military inspector's marking, and the engine number 2344. I was wondering if Herc's engine (number 3230) also has this inspector's marking, which would definitely make it a WD/D.

Hi,

Just noticed this: I have some pictures of civilian D's, and these all seem to have a dynamo plus coil ignition, the 1939 catalogue doesn't mention a magdyno either. All the military WD/D models definitely had a magdyno. This bike also has a magdyno. Retrofit? Or is it indeed a civilianised WD/D ?

Hi Rich,

You could be right, the kneegrips look a bit foreign as well I think... Would be nice to know the frame number. This number is usually stamped on the headstock, at the left hand side. Will you keep us informed Herc?

Hi Herc,

Must be a 1939 250cc sidevalve indeed!

Hi Herc,

Well, that's a model D you've got there. Must be 1939 or 1940. Is there a broad arrow stamped on the engine? In that case it would be a civilianised ex british army model WD/D.

British Bikes / Re: Royal Enfield Frame No. 7186
« on: March 09, 2007, 08:46:16 PM »
Hi Dick,

I am currently trying to establish a register for the Royal Enfield WD/CO, so have quite a bit of knowledge about these frames.

Number 7186 has been issued to both the WD/C and the WD/CO models (in 1940 and 1944 respectively). The WD/C has the typical WD/C frame, whereas the WD/CO with that frame number would have had the so called type 2 frame.

If you send me a picture of your frame, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find out which model it is. My email address is: jan.vandevelde@vac-machines.be

If anybody else who’s reading this would also have a WD/CO and would like to have it in the register, please send me a picture of it plus details such as frame number, engine number, other stampings on the engine, despatch date for those who have a dating certificate from the Royal Enfield Owners Club, …  Thank you very much in advance for your appreciated help!

All the best,

REgards,
Jan
 ;)
