The Classic Biker Bar / Replacing engines...paperwork?
« on: August 28, 2007, 03:24:05 AM »
If one replaces an engine,I was told the V5 only applies to the frame....so does the engine have any kind of paperwork,or do I just inform the DVLA that it now has a new engine number?doI need any paper work?

I have an old CB200,that I have to get a mark for,but first I have to get a mot.
This head is seized,Is it possible to change the engine internals
whilst keeping the original crank cases??(engine number)?

Japanese Bikes / Re: Cd185 gear shaft seal?

Oh,
that's cool ! it appears that a lot of parts seem interchangeable between the CB200 and the 185,is that right?
As far as you can guess or know?

Japanese Bikes / Cd185 gear shaft seal?
« on: September 01, 2007, 12:33:19 AM »
Hi all,
was wondering if this seal is available anywhere or another also fits,i.e CB185.
Will replacing that seal mean splitting the engine?then I need new gaskets?anyone have any idea where I would then find those?
Cheers

This CD185 has points,so would it need a "Live" battery to just get the spark plug sparking...? or to start her?

Nice advice !and not let the 6 volt bother me,so  as far as you can remember, the later 185's (1978 as opposed to 1973)where better engines?

I think the CD185 has points,as that is 6 volt.
So I would have to put the 12volt STARTER RELAY, RECTIFIER,IGNITION COIL ASSY ,  WIRING LOOM on as well as IGNITION BARREL anything else you can think of? do I need to put all the above things on?
Have you heard of Boyer Bransden Single Phase Power Box  see here:

See here what my CB200 looks like, its a copy of an "Indian"

I can get another CB200 engine here :

In your opinion, should I rather forget about the CD185 donor bike and just buy this engine? as my current CB200 engine has  seized cam....please help.
Your opinion is highly valued.
As this Cd185 is hardly known here in the U.K...let me know your thoughts please.
Cheers

Japanese Bikes / 6 volt to 12 volt
« on: August 27, 2007, 02:06:58 AM »
Hi there,
if I wanted to change my bike from a 6 volt to a 12 volt, would I just have to put on the 12volt alternator? anything else?

I just noticed that the CD185 is a 6 volt, also the CD185 has a single carb, where as the CB200 has twin carbs...I guess one carb could be better for less maintenance?
Any comments please?

Japanese Bikes / CB200/CD185
« on: August 25, 2007, 04:32:28 AM »
Hi there,
can anyone advise me?I just bought a CB200(1973) with a top end that has a seized cam,is this worth repairing? as I have a CD185(1978) as a donor bike,was the 200 a 6volt? and the 185 12 volt?
Which in your opinions is the better motor?
Is it possible to kick start the 185 without a battery?it should start?right or is it not possible?
Thanx
