British Bikes / newbie to classics

Hi folks
After mostly only riding modern sports bikes i'm trying to get back on the road again ,and fancy a classic.
As i had a z900 when i first started riding and still miss it to this day ,but unfortunatly don't have that sort of money at the moment .
So i'm thinking of either a ajs model 14 or a bsa c15, is it realistic that i'll get a decent road worthy example of either of these for £1000?
And which model is the best all rounder and as the best availability of parts?
