British Bikes / Re: Value of mid-50's Triumph?

Like I said to some one who realy likes that particular model it would be worth whatever he /she had to spend on it to bring it back to its former glory. I love triumphs & if my shed were bigger I would try to gather at least one of every model built.Look out here I go useing my vast fortune on extravagances again.Ah bugger I was dreamin  but arent we all millionares when we are asleep.I have just completed a nuts & bolts resto on an M33 the thing came out of burma & there wasnt a part of it that hadnt fallen victim to the burmese butcher's tool kit ie a14lb hammer & a worn out chissel handed down through at least 7 previous generations so it has cost a lot more to restore than what it is worth but to the owner the nostalgia of reliveing his boyhood watching his Dad ride one its worth it.What the customer wants the customers gets. Regards Geoff

I agree with both revband & bikerisme this machine is missing a number of difficult to obtain parts althou all the tin ware is there remember a coat of paint could be hideing a multitude of sins dents rust etc that unless you have some expierience inpainting & panel beating your going to have to shell out any where between $1500au to $2300au for a decent paint job. So useing revbands maximum purchase price of  approx $2800au  your all ready up to around $5000 & you havent even stripped it down yet. Start that & the dollars just keep adding up at the least you will need to replace all the gaskets & seals approx$150au. Judging by the dust Id say she's been laid up for awhile so if you were to press it into service she will begin to leak in a very short time once that starts it only gets worse then you have to consider rings at least approx $70 or the possibility it might want a rebore $50 per cylinder new piston etc etc etc. Unless you are realy enthusiastic about this particular vintage & plan on keeping it indefinately you wont see much value for the money & time you spend on it

finaly it lives & my sanity has been restored well as near to normal as a 58 yr old motorcycle tech can be too much shell A & methanol I guess any way after checking & rechecking everything more times than Im prepared to count are but succeshas a very sweat taste O.K enough of me doin the happy dance I guess you want to know wat was stopping the old girl from makeing go noises. It was a fuel issue but not what you would expect it was the tank or should I say the cream lineing treatment that had been applied by the previous owner in burma so Lord only knows what it was maybe egg whites milk & 1/2 a cup of flour who knows but any way what ever it was it was breaking down & contaminating the fuel to the point where it had nill volatility. Clean tank thoroughly fresh 98 ron fuel  depress tickler valve flood liberaly 25% advance full choke decomp lever applied 3-4 vigorous kicks till she popped in the exhaust decomp out push down on kick star till she sighs through the carby & kick swiftly phwump phwump phwump phwump. I'll put the finishing touches on her in the morning & should be test rideing around lunch time thanks for all the good advice along the way mostly thanks for the encouragement its been appreciated see you some where on the road if your in oz or talk to yo back here.Regards Geoff

Im hopeing like heck there is a bsa single specialist out ther who can shine some much needed light on my problem for the first time in my career as a motor cycle mechanic which spans some 30+ yrs Ive got a motor that Ive rebuilt from the bottom end up new mains rebored new piston about the only things that havent been replaced are the cases barrell & head Ive set the cam timeing with the relavent marks on the intermediate gear & cams corresponding also the ignition timeing has been set at 3/8 B.T.D.C & the best Ive managed to get it to do after much kicking  & rechecking all the specs is to run for a couple of minutes then die & refuse to restart it has plenty of fuel & good spark magy has been rebuilt & new carb with the correct jets fitted & the needle set at the correct hight this ones got me stumped Ive tried all the tricks I know. Yours in anticipation Geoff
