Japanese Bikes / another numty question
« on: August 26, 2013, 05:48:59 PM »
OK I got the carbs off the GS1000, cleaned them, put them back together, replaced the air filter, put the air box back in place now how the F do I get the carbs back in. I can line them up, get them on the first lip, then that's it. Stuck. It's as if they need levering in but what do I lever them off. Is there a method for doing this ? Frank,  don't even think about answering ;)

Japanese Bikes / UK stockest

Does anyone know of a UK parts stockest for Mikuni carb parts, I'm after rubber passage  bungs and gaskets. I can get them from The States but postage is a bit pricey. Thanks.

Japanese Bikes / Re: Float tube blocked

This was taken before cleaning, the tube I drilled is to the left of the top right bolt hole and joins the hole that can be seen back right in the middle of the float bowl. Hope that's OK.

If the float bowl choke tube is the tube cast into the float bowl then yes that is the one that I drilled out :-(  the choke tubes also appear to have 2 holes  one either side about 5mm up from the base , will try thinners and comp air next week. Just got the first of the float needle out from number 1 and the whole needle assembly out from 4 which is now soaking in petrol.  Thanks .

Help, please , how the hell do I clean this float tube ? it's about the width of a wire brush hair so drilling is out, the tube is brass but there appears to be an insert does this come out? No sarky comments Frank  ;)

Think it must have been my Kawa Z650 great bike until I put the K&N filters on with the Harris pipe, it sounded and went great but it was a pig to start. It also was or seamed a lot lighter than my GS1000 which was a big beast of a thing, well it was  to a little lad like me.

Why am I not surprised you turned up on this site Frank, I'm not that keen on cv carbs either, I think they were over engineered for the sake of it, but that's what is on the bike and I'd like to keep it standard if possible.

The needle jets came out quite easily and the tips are fine. Other people have mentioned sonic cleaning, but at £20 per carb is it worth buying a cleaner ? I have no experience of sonic cleaning, is it up there with microwave ovens and mobile phones ;-)
I counted out the number of turns on each pilot jet at 14 1/2 turns or tight and 1 1/2 out. many thanks for you reply. Any other advice would be more than welcome .

My old GS1000g has been parked up in the garage for 15 years and I've finally got to it. The engine turned over so that was a start. I knew the carbs would be a mess so I've removed them and started stripping them. I assume I'm going to have to strip them into individual units, The diaphragms are OK, and I've removed them, the main jet, jet needles, floats, pilot jets BUT how do I get the float jets out and how do I clean the choke tube from the float bowl. I had to drill out the float bowl choke tube !  when I say a mess the float bowl insides were brown and the needle jets were a green/black slime. :(
