maybe Excelsior of around 1929?
Because muffler is on left side it is maybe the utility model (147 cc or 172 cc).
I think tank colour design was only shortly like it is shown here.

Hello Jim,
at Uncle Benīs bike on photo above it is quite hard for me to see much details about frame shape.
Your shown frame seems also a bit older than 1927th frame style of New Hudson, like shown above from catalogue.
And it looks also different in details.
I donīt think that all New Hudson frames look identical.
Of course, it could be also another make than New Hudson. It was just an idea that it could be an New Hudson.

Front end (fork, brake, tank, etc.) looks somehow like New Hudson of about 1927.
That would match with registration info also, if new Hudson would be the chassis.
Maybe a customized New Hudson with Calthorpe engine ?

Hi Leon,
about the date I am also not that certain.
I have taken my assumption based on a 1929 sales catalogue from CE.
The same model from 1930th catalogue (Model F55) was shown with a different gear change lever type and a different exhaust already.

Additionally I have seen some pics of the same bike with several different year date on the plate,
also one with "CH-1929" on.
About the 1927 I am not so sure as well. Just have seen one pic with "CE-1927" on the plate,
but tank colouring seems to be a bit different on that pic.

You can find such pics on ebay from time to time.

seems to be a Coventry-Eagle "Flying 500" Model E55 (1929), but most likely earlier (probably 1927), with JAP double-port engine.

Photoprapher is Charles Howell (-> CH), Official Photographer, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool.
It is no official registration plate, but showing the photographerīs initials and year when photo was taken, like Rex already mentioned correctly.

The bike is most likely owned by the photographer.
I have seen some other photos with the same bike before.
But I am not clear what make the bike is.

seems to be an Alcyon type 18.

Engine seems to be a Zurcher Type AS3.

Armor was bought by Alcyon company and I assume they have offered same types (maybe with slightly different configuration) with the two brand names after that for a while.
