British Bikes / BSA Thunderbolt value
« on: June 22, 2006, 06:31:06 AM »
Hello, I am new to British bikes and i have a chance to buy a 1970 BSA Thunderbolt 650.
This bike belongs to my wifes Uncle(Knowone in the family new he had it).   He purchased it 10 years ago from a bike shop. The bike was in storage for 8 years before he bought it and he has kept it tuned up and inside for the last 10 years and has only put on about 100 miles since the purchase.  Only shows 3000 miles on it and the odometer is working as far as he knows. Starts up on the first kick, runs good as well.  The chrome is in good shape all around although in need of some polish.  The paint has some small chips in it on the top of the tank as well as the paint bsa logo on the side of the tank is flaking a bit.
The paint on the side mouldings have some wear marks.  The only dent i could see was on the tank and was only the size of a nickel or so.   He hasnt driven if for quite some time and is thinking of selling.  He said that He would sell it to me(family) for around 3000 Canadian or about 1500lbs.  I really dont have the money at this time but am wonding if this is an investment that i should not let go or if this would be an average price for that kind of bike.

Thanks for any input in advanced

Just wondering the difference between the Lightning and the Thunderbolt,  I seem to see a lot more lightning than i do Thunderbolt but yet they both look almost identical.  What is the difference between them?
