The Classic Biker Bar / DKW Clutch not Disengaging!.. SOS!!
« on: February 26, 2007, 04:36:23 PM »
Hello,

I am restoring a DKW SB 200 in Bombay, India. I have so far managed to get the spark, and tune the carb so that the engine runs pretty good. Also, before I figured out the wiring I remade the clutch(The cork layer had worn out when I got the bike)at home, with help of documents on the internet and advice from restoration pros.

And just when I thought I could finally ride it, I realize that the clutch just does not disengage. Its like shifting without clutch. Now I don't have a manual but I have a German language part list that shows and explosion diagram of the clutch assembly.(picture attached)

It shows 2 pairs of clutch-pressure plates in the clutch bell, toward the outer side of the bike, and one pair behind the clutch bell. Now the bell in my bike is clearly a bit altered ( The quality of the slots show that its a local job). If u see carefully, the diagram shows a smaller copy of circular slots behind the bell for the third pair. However, I just have slots on the outer end. Now all 3 pairs do fit in here, but no matter how tight or lose I set the springs, they just don't disengage.I tried pressing the worm gear all the way in with a wrench while the engine ,  was running. But there is still 100% positive drive.

I have run out of ideas here. I would highly appreciate any light thrown on this subject.

Thanks in advance

The Classic Biker Bar / Re: First Project Bike

Hey,

I am from Bombay and I also am restoring my first vintage, a DKW SB 200.

In case you still have not started restoring, I would like to point out that most of the british bikes are 4-stroke engines.. and they are always more messy and complex than 2-strokes.

I would suggest you go for a 2-stroke machine, atleast for the first project. A 2-stroke and a single cylinder.

All the best

 Hello.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I had forgotten the username and password.
Yes I still need the parts. I came across a couple tail lamps but too expensive or too bad in quality.

I have not come across any speedometers. The restoration is almost done, I am working on the clutch right now.

I would appreciate any help in sourcing the parts.

regards

Hello,

I have a 1938 DKW SB200.

It is pretty intact and original.Whats missing is-

speedometer,  tail lamp.

Can someone please help me in sourcing the parts. Also is there a website where i can get the instruction manuals and technical details, preferably in english?

Also, i would like to have an approximate idea of what price should a restored sb 200 fetch.

Thanks in advance.

British Bikes / Matchless clutch doubt
« on: February 07, 2008, 09:52:34 PM »
A little embarrassing...

I was assembling clutch on the 1951 Matchless G3LS. It was slipping slightly. Someone told me the ball bearing is probably missing and put it. Now the pushrod comes out too  much.

Before you say,, its not coming out with greasing the pushrod and pulling out.

Is there a way to remove it without opening the RH side cover again.

SOS!

British Bikes / Which Triumph is this ? TR5 or 500GP??
« on: September 04, 2006, 11:24:30 PM »
I need help in identifying a specials series Triumph. Havent seen it yet, just got an offer over the phone.
It would be great if someone could tell me the exact model name and the numbers produced so I can get a grip on what bike it is. I am sorry I dont have  its Engine/Frame numbers or pictures. I dont have them yet.. and I urgently need to identify the motorcycle.

The facts I know about it are-

Its a
T100, 500C TWIN, ALUMIUM ENGINE, SPRUNG HUB, RACING KIT(SOME MODS TO THE CHASSIS  AS COMPARED TO REGULAR T100s). LOOKS LIKE A RACING VERSION.

MOSTLY A 1945-50 MANUFACTURE.
I have looked up the websites and have somewhat shortlisted to the 500GP,  TR5(Trophy 500) or maybe the T100C or such T100 types.
But I could not get specifications on any of these models that match the above facts. The TROPHY500 had Al-engine but was apparently a trial bike. The 500gp(also called the Senior TT) looks like its the right one but nothing told me it had sprung hubs and an Al-Engine... am confused!!

Thanking all in advance
