He's not gone, he keeps checking to see if we're talking about him.

I think you'll find it's a respected and knowledgeable forum which doesn't suffer bad manners easily.

Hitchcock motorcycles is the goto place for Enfield stuff. They have a good website. All the 4 speed gearboxes as based on Albion even the internals and the clutches but the dimensions may vary. Bullet final drive chain is 5/8" × 3/8", I think the 250cc bikes used a smaller chain, might be worth checking.

I may be talking nonsense but that looks very much like a final drive sprocket off a 4 speed Royal Enfield Bullet. The gearbox was Albion, even the spline looks similar but could of course be a different size.

I'd still try Cox & Turner. They have supplied me with some really odd rings in the past. Just need all dimensions.

I've found monoblocks can cause difficult starting when on side stand. One of my bikes is a pig on the side stand but stand it upright and it's fine. Isn't that one of the reasons Amal went to the concentric carb ?

Check the length of the spacer between the bearings inside the hub. Should be the same distance as between the lips inside the hub, otherwise you're putting side loading on the bearings.

How did the auto lube oil get into the engine? I haven't come across any open orifice on my super sport, am I missing something? Seems to be running fine (if a little smoky) on 16 to 1 petroil.

Thanks for that. I'll bear your suggestions in mind. I especially like the idea of a "P" clip around the exhaust.

Thanks for the compliments chaps. 33d6 I'd be interested to hear about the exhaust cracking. Thinking about it, a solid exhaust rigidly fixed at one end, to a cast iron cylinder at the other is going to cause stress somewhere. As I definitely don't want to damage the cylinder, do you think a cut and joint in front of the silencers might alleviate the problem?

Well thanks to the input from forum members, my Fanny B is finally done and on the road. I bought it as the remains of a 1930 Black Hawk but the FB club has verified it as a 1934 Falcon. I find it a little strange that a date and model is verified by the detachable and exchangeable front forks, I think my seller just picked up the wrong forks. The teflon ring I replaced the clutch bearing with is holding up well. The stainless exhausts were quite challenging, the pipes were made from our old swimming pool slide handrail (With a lot of heating and bending. The stainless silencers were made from standard pipe fittings off ebay. The shine was removed to try to match the unrestored patina of the rest of the bike. The bike's  a bit of a mongrel but it'll do me. Pics of before and after.

I know nothing of the technology you're talking of but a check on ebay here in UK shows a 16mm microfiche to digital service at £10.

I've used the caustic method on A10 barrels. It certainly works and does no damage to the barrel but will dissolve any alloy in touches.

British Bikes / Re: Tuning villiers carb
« on: July 22, 2021, 06:46:18 PM »
As I'm only on the final straight of a 3yr rebuild, the bike is not on the road yet. I bought it as a collection of tubes, forks, tank engine and gearbox so engine may not be off this bike, it has a peculiar sprocket arrangement. The two sprockets are on a common threaded sleeve, and allows adjustment in or out with the small sprocket acting as the locknut. As I live in hilly Cornwall, sounds as if there may be more problems ahead. The carb came from a Danarm 2 man chainsaw which also had this throttle control. Would this be similar to the bike unit mentioned in the "blurb"?
