So possibly either the cylinder head has been changed or maybe the engine isn't original either?

Chris,
If you decide to return the bike to a more standard form then it looks as if you are going to need practically everything except a frame and engine etc. judging by the photo, even the seat and tank look as if they are from a later model, so will cost quite a bit to do unless you can find a lot of used parts.
If you are happy to use the bike as it is then possibly that would be the best option? You could always change the wheels though?

The oil that Triumph recommended  for your Bonneville is 20W-50 multigrade and I would be inclined to stick with it but if you do intend to use Monograde oil then it is available (if you are in the UK, I did ask?) from Castrol, Morris, Silkolene etc.  Any decent motorcycle shop should be able to order it for you or it is available mail order from Holdens:

It would help to know what type of motorcycle you have?
I am guessing you are referring to a Triumph twin (possibly Bonneville) fitted with a Morgo pump?
The modern Castrol GTX oil available in the UK (are you in the UK?) is now 10W-40 or 15W-40 grade,

Valve guide sets with rubber seals should be available from Norman Hyde:

Sorry to hear that the Hyde valve guides didn't cure the problem.
You could try fitting a restrictor to the rocker oil feed  pipe?
Are you sure the oil isn't leaking down between the guides and the cylinder head?  
If no-one else here can give you any better answers to your questions you could try asking on the Triumph Bonneville message board?

Things become a little clearer now!
BMW motorcycles are certainly not British, they are German, BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke (which means Bavarian Motor Works although they are now made near Berlin) and yes the Russians did build their own versions of them, later the Chinese did too, but they are not known as BMW's but totally seperate makes such as Cossack, Ural and Dnepr (Russian) and Chiang Jiang (Chinese).
And yes these could be 650cc, and are still available to buy new today.

Although these motorcycles are fairly solidly built they do not have a very high value, certainly not as high as BMW's.

Please could you re-check the details you have given as no BMW motorcycles (as far as I am aware!) were made during this period (1947) as motorcycle production did not resume after World War 2 until December 1948.

BMW didn't make any motorcycles (again that I know of?) of 650cc until the late seventies, the standard capacity sizes for post-war BMW twins (until 1969 at least) was either 500 or 600cc.

Giving any estimate of value like this even with more information is rather difficult especially as you do not say whereabouts in the WORLD you live?
