Striking colors, very pretty.Soft seats are for decadent capitalists.

I would say its lucky you have points,so its not some early solid state ignition.Firstly,do you have magnetism in the flywheel? Should easily pull in a spanner or other bit of iron.If thats strong,I would suspect the capacitor. They dont last all that long.Get a new one from a car ignition set (old type car),the coil is easily tested with a small battery, once the capacitor is working. If the coil is cactus, you can still use the points for a battery/coil system to get it mobile. You can generally find a coil ,and other bits in lawnmower engines, the pole pieces will need to match the curvature of the flywheel closely.Test the timing with a light, just looking aint very reliable.30-40 ignition advance needed. The other reason twostrokes wont go is leaking/hard/cracked crankshaft seals.

I would suspect a new rebore pistons and rings. The motor will run hotter until the new bits wear in.If you are really worried ,lift the barrels and see whats going on.Otherwise try a bit more ignition advance.

You have a third brush dynamo, around 30W from memory, not much, with charging resistances in the light switch. In the interest of originality, you ll need to stick with this. You can restore the outer casing of the cutout, and with a reco d dynamo, use a 6V solid state cutout made for Harleys and Indians, obtainable from the Harley suppliers in the US quite cheaply.

Yep,never use any plastic fuel line that can be melted in a few secs with heat.Use proper black rubber fuel line ,or copper tube. The Amal carb that never leaked fuel or flooded has not been made yet.

The Classic Biker Bar / Re: How to sell classic bikes in UK?

Surely Germany is the place to sell the Victoria.I would put it on ebay, with a reserve. If its pay on pickup,I dont see how either party can be scammed.Cant see that driving across a couple of european borders ammounts to much.Out here buyers drive 2000 ks to pick up bikes from ebay.Poms are pretty xenophobic, and non brits dont do well there.Regards John

The VMCC used to have "Marque Specialists" for obscure brands.Sometimes these guys were very hard to contact, living in vine covered cottages at the end of winding lanes or converted 10th century monasteries and rejecting the telephone as a work of the devil. Now they shun the internet as well,so its even more difficult.Regards John

I confess ,I do still have heaps of British bike stuff. It amuses me when young guys lob up to the door expecting me to give them something"so they can restore it".Anything they manage to beg buy or steal goes straight onto Ebay. The local vintage club was trying to con "old farts like you" into donating a bike so young members could restore it.Well sez I" Whats wrong with an eighties jappa?I can pull one from the scrap free for you"Sez the young uns"No ,we want a Brit bike coz eighties jappas aint worf nuffink"Scrapping starts again in earnest on 1 Feb 2016.I just hope the Chinese economy hasnt gone belly up by then.Regards John.

For 30p a kilo,I will fix you up with all the British iron you want. The price has actually crashed to 2c/k[1p] in the last few weeks. My last bin was just on 10ton,and they held to the offer price of $120/ton.The woman in the office was doing me a favor, next bin $35 a ton.Not bikes but AECs,Coles, Fodens,Leylands,Commers, all the cream of pommy engineering when they still knew how to do anything.Regards John.

Belarus,Ukraine,Bulgaria?I can tell you that in the sixties many old bike shops closed, and the stuff was taken to the tip, because the scrappies wouldnt take bike stuff, not enough weight. When I was a kid ,a man in the street made aluminium pullies for electric motors etc, using ally from bike crankcases.I got tons of Indian and Harley iron from him free,a complete1947 SV74 Harley, less cases and box, heaps of WLA and army Indian chief stuff. The price rose quickly in the early seventies, and I did allright.Back then you couldnt give away a M20 or 16H,side valve slugs.Regards John.

I was  given a 16H/wd Norton once, tried to sell it,wasted money on ads,no takers,so I did scrap it.Now I self flagellate every St Eustices day.Chanting...engine$1000, dolls head box.$1000,front forks $1000,frame $1000, wheels and drums$1000,and so on until I lapse in unconsciousness. An experience so searing,it has turned me into a crazy hoarder with his own TV spot.Unfortunately too late to hoard much cheap motorbike stuff.Regards John.[PS St E is the patron saint of those unfortunates who sell a Faberge Egg for 2/6 at a car boot sale, and find out what it was worth six months later on the Antiques Roadshow.
