Simple Bonneville T140 questions??
« on: October 26, 2006, 01:01:39 AM »
Hi all

Have just acquired a T140 Bonneville. It is cosmetically excellent, apart from a few minor blemishes. However, I need to fit a new wiring loom, as this has been fried at some point and may still be shorting somewhere (blowing main fuse at battery). In order to do this I need to get the tank off and, while I await my shop manual, I wondered if anyone can explain how to do this?  ???

Secondly, it has been fitted with Mikuni carbs. Is this a good idea? Should I source Amals and if so, which type?

Finally, I need to purchase a few parts which are not as good as they should be :- chrome headlight shell, chrome chainguard, fork gaiters and , of course,  ;D a wiring loom!

Any advice on where to obtain these parts would also be much appreciated.

Thanks ... Dave

Hi Dave, To remove the tank prise out the  bung on the top with Triumph on it underneath you will see a bolt that you remove. Then making sure the petrol tap is turned off undo the petrol pipe. The tank can now be lifted off. Mikuni carbs are fine so long as they are set for your model. What year is your T140 as the type of Amal carb changed in the late 70s. It depends how original you want to be. Len Craig is a good source of parts his email is www.lengraigandsons.co.uk  Hope this helps, Dave. :)

:-[ Doh - it seems pretty obvious now that you've told me ....

Many thanks for this. I'll also take a look at the web site for spare parts.

Cheers .. Dave
