Bsa B33/Goldstar
« on: September 27, 2006, 10:03:51 PM »
Hi
My father passed away a few years ago and he left me a Bsa Goldstar Replica ?
The frame has a No of CB31 1 3720 i would like to find out what this frame is off originally and what year?

Also the Engine is not a goldie engine as it has a number bb31 3877 altough i have been told its is a 500cc ? can that be true? Also i would like to know the year ?

Does anybody know an goldie man in ireland i could talk too?

CB31 1 3720

The CB31 stamped frame would appear to have been used for both the B31 (350cc) or B33 (500cc) swinging arm models so it's probable that it started out as a B33, the B31 and B33 models being very similar apart from the capacity difference.
If the single '1' digit is part of the actual number (13720) then that could date the frame to 1955?
However if the single digit is not part of the number I don't know the reason for it and the number 3720 would place it as 1954.

The engine would most likely have originally been from a 1953 B31 (350cc) model, although the number only identifies the crankcase so (as you have said) it could have been modified with Gold Star parts and may now be 500cc?

An example of a 1958 model B31 in the pictures section:

Thanks for the info.

I know the bike was a original Goldstar until the Conrod snapped and took out the Crankcase and bent the original frame beyond repair.
The engine and frame now were sitting in the shed and every other component was transfered to them.

I am going to start to restore the bike to it's original spec if i can ? Is there any where i can buy a original Goldstar frame and crankcase for a 1954 model, Or is there someone out there making reprodution frames and engines?

Sorry for all the questions!!

Colin

Hi

Just joined the forum tonight.

Can't think of anyone making new Goldie frames. how ever as a last resort you could consider useing a B31/33 frame.

I am sure I have seen a recent advert for some sort of manufacture of Gold Star engines, I can't think where though.

One of the classic bike mags or Old Bike Mart will have some usefull phone numbers in. Someone like George Prew who specialises in Gold Stars might be able to help you.

Good hunting
