1974 Triumph TR6R
« on: January 18, 2009, 03:41:48 AM »
Hi,
My father recently passed away and we are trying to identify his motorcycle (we are told is from 1974 and has only TR6R on the engine).
It is black with gold trim and has a "lean on" single stand.
I cannot get a photo uploaded yet - I am rorking on it - but the closest looking bike we have found so far is the 1970 Triumph TR6R.
We are very confused with all of the makes and models, but some expert out there must be able to help.
Thanks,
Darren

Can you post the complete engine and frame number. You will find the engine number stamped on the left side of the engine under the barrels, and the frame number is on the left side on the frame tube coming down from the steering headstock. It will say something like TR6R CD12345

The other number on the bike is GE27749.  Does that help?

Thanks or that, but the bike is black with gold trim(painted).  I guess it is not the original fram & engine package.  I have taken some photos (they aren't very good) and I will get some more next week.  I have also "heard" from someone in the family that it may be from 1969...  Note the longer front mudguard.

Could you say what the frame number is? It should be stamped on the left side downtube at the headstock?

Does the frame number match the engine number?

If so, that would date it as manufactured in June of the 1971 production year.

The bike has been extensively modified, but is certainly an "Oil in frame" (OIF) model, so must be from 1971-on. It would have looked more like this one, originally: http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Triumph%20Bikes/pages/Triumph-TR6R-71.htm
