REPLACEMENT T140V CRANKSHAFT
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:15:37 PM »
I have reached the conclusion that I would be better off replacing my worn crankshaft than attempting an expensive repair. Can anyone tell me if a 1979 T140E crankshaft is okay for my 1976 T140V? Judging by a photo alone, the only difference I can see is that the flywheel drillings are in different places but I assume these are just to balance the flywheel and therefore can differ from crankshaft to crankshaft.

The same part number (71-3298) is listed from '73 to '82 (and maybe later?) for the crankshaft with oil tube assembly.

The crank and flywheel assembly is part 71-3674, '73-76', and 71-3030 for late '76-'82), according to the factory parts books.
And yes, the balance drillings are likely to vary on individual cranks. Don't forget to clean out the sludge trap of any replacemrent crankshaft before fitting it.

I don't know why the crankshaft and flywheel assembly part number was changed from late '76-on? As the flywheel's part number (71-2425) didn't change until 1981 (to 71-7338).
