« on: May 01, 2009, 06:25:54 AM »
Hi, I trying to restore this beeza , And becomes the painting fase , where I donīt known what color should I paint the fuel tank. Iīve already painted all other parts in black, but the fuel tank goes black, stripes of gold and I guess red or green in the " drops". I think I got the right drawing " squeme" but not the correct colors. I hope someone can help me with some color references, like names or manufactures numbers perhaps.
Thanks a lot!
Antonio

I looked in Roy Bacons book on BSA Twins Restoration, and this is what it says under the appendix on colours.

'A7 1947 - 50
All painted parts either black or Devon Red, this including frame, forks, oil tank, battery carrier, chainguard and mudguards.
Petrol tank chrome plated with black panels lined in gold or Devon Red panels gold lined.
Wheel rims chrome plated with either black or Devon Red centres gold lined.
Chrome plated headlight rim, handlebars, tank cap, brake back plates, battery strap, fork oil seal holders and exhaust system.'

Since you have painted the rest of your bike black you may want to keep the tank panels black with gold lining.
I don't have a modern equivalent colour to suggest for Devon Red, but I am sure either someone else on the forum can help. Alternatively you can contact one of the classic motor cycle paint specialists.
I hope this is helpful.

I can not find any decent pictures to help you, but suggest you contact the BSA owners.
http://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/home.html
Also you could look on the internet.
I think you will get the most reliable information on the shape, size & position of the painted panels for your tank from the BSA club.

Hi,

the all black or Devon red sounds right and is correct to the BSA pre unit singles book. I too have a 1948 A7, but mine is rigid. I wouldn't get too hung up on colour schemes though, mine has black Cycle parts, chromed tank with British Racing green painted panels on it, not original, but Ijust fancied being different!

Hi Jim, after a lot of research I found like you that I will keep the all black squeme with the cromes that Justin said. Since my tank is beyond croming ( too much bumps)I painted it silver where it should be crome and green instead of devon red (thatīs my personal touch) , It may be not original but it is looking beatifull!!!
I will post a photo !
Thank you all for  your very helpfull hints! We donīt have many resources here and you guys were essential for my BSA restauration.

The most important thing is that you like the colour scheme, & you enjoy the bike.
Happy riding :)
