Black Bomber Carb Question
« on: September 30, 2007, 02:58:06 AM »
Hey everyone...new here. Great Site !

I have a 1965 Honda CB450 "Black Bomber", all stock.
The left carb bowl is leaking through the bowl gasket. I had made new bowl gaskets for both carbs myself. The right one is holding fine.

These are carbs with no screws holding the bowl on. They have a wire clip that runs underneath the bowl.

Anyone have such a thing and have a leak problem ?

I'm thinking maybe the wire clip may need some bending to make it hold tighter. Could this be the problem ?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Ric,
I have experienced a similar thing on a BMW's Bing carb. Re-bending the wire retainer should be fine as long as you're not too brutal. I would also check the float heights are correct whilst you are fiddling about, to save having to disturb the gasket again, should the float be letting in too much fuel in addition to the gasket problem.
I don't know much about your bike but if the gaskets are interchangeable between the carbs, a swap around might also do the business. If the 'bad' gasket leaks on the other carb then it might be time to get the scissors and the Cornflakes packet out again.
