Triumph unit 650

I have just aquired a Triumph unit 650 in need of a great deal of work.  The reg document says 1971 and it is J registration.  The numbers are TR6P ND60474.  I am told it is an ex-police bike, hence the 'P', and it is all black.  I want to restore it, can anyone suggest a good publication that might help, is this a Trophy or Saint, should it have the flat ended megaphone shaped exhausts or the older torpedo type.  Any advice would be appreciated

It certainly is an ex police bike hence the P,and it is a Saint,I can't help you at the moment about the 71 model,but this is a picture of a 69 TR6p.

Thanks for posting the picture, it gives me something to aim for, mine looks quite different - basically requires total renovation.  Indicators on 69 model - no sign on mine.  I need to check numbers to see if it actually is 1971 as I have a feeling it could be earlier.

If it is a '71 model, I think it should be an early OIF model, so will be very different.

ND60474.

ND identifies the build date as N = October D = 1970 MODEL YEAR, and as Triumph model production for the new model year normally started during August of the previous year it would have actually been built in October 1969.
TR6P would identify it as a Saint model, although the actual specification would depend on the requirements of the police force that had purchased it.

Thanks, really usefull information, I thought it was earlier than 1971.  It has separate oil tank so certainly not OIF.  Does anyone know where I can download a parts book from.  I'm sure I did this a few years back for a Tiger Cub - straight from internet.  I think I need parts book No.5 from engine No. DU 44394

That would be suitable for 1967 models.



The parts book for 1970 models is No. 8 (part number 99-0901). I don't know where there is one on the web but you should be able to get a copy from J R Technical Publications
