Help getting started!!
« on: June 28, 2006, 04:42:41 PM »
On my commute in this morning (gsxr600) through London traffic, whilst taking in lungfuls of carbon monoxide, I realise that I wanted to slow down and enjoy the ride a little more. Especially on the weekends.

We all race around like loons and often forget to enjoy the ride itself and the pleasure of the surroundings, oh by the way before you give me the "old fart" treatment I'm 26...... ;)

Anyway what I really want is to enjoy a bimble through the Oxfordshire countryside on a classic thumper and was wondering if anyone knew where I could rent/borrow one from??

Am also considering purchasing a Royal Enfiled bullet and getting my tools out to really get into it...

Any help would be much appreciated.....

Well you've certainly got the right vocabulary...!  Bimbling eh!  Not a word many 26 year olds get to use often!  Never tried to rent a bike myself, but you could try the guys at http://www.classicmotorcyclehireuk.iofm.net/.  See if they can help.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
Nigel.

Brilliant,

Very much looking forward to actually seeing the countryside rather than blasting through it.

Will give them a shout this weekend. Thank you very much for your swift response and will let you know how I get on.

Jon

(p.s. I'm assuming that Enfield and Royal Enfield are the same. And that these bikes fall under the Classic category rather than the Vintage bracket)

Royal Enfield motorcycles have been made in India for many years, and for a time were imported as Enfields but yes they are really the same thing.

To us Brits, certain older bikes are normally referred to as 'classics' although they are not old enough to be considered vintage.
Americans however tend to refer to all older bikes as 'vintage'.

A NEW Royal Enfield could loosely be referred to as a classic I suppose?

if you want to get your tools out go for the old bullet if you want to just ride the new bullets seem to be fairly reliable.  old ones are fairly reliable as well incase theres bullet owners here.
