BSA Motorcycle

Hi,

I found a motorcycle in a buddy's shed.  He knows who the owner is and is going to contact him on my behalf, however, I have no idea what this motorcycle is.  I know it's a BSA, however, that is the extent of my knowledge.

I do not know where to look for a frame number, however, the engine number is A65L4352.  From what I've read it's a 650cc Lightning engine, however I'm not sure what the numbers (4352) refer to.  If someone could direct me to a good resource on these motorcycles as well as tell me what the numbers mean and where to find the frame serial numbers, I would be greatly appreciative.  Thanks.

Erik

The engine no as you say A65L is a BSA 650 lightening 4352 is the individual serial number, the frame number should be stamped on or just below the headstock.

The frame number should start either A50 or A65L depending on year of make.

For full info try the BSA owners club or the Vintage Motorcycle Club.

Your frame is 1966 as frame nos. started with A65L 101 upwards. 1965 frame nos. started A65D & for 1967 they started A65LA.
