C15 Primary Drive Tensioner Advise
« on: April 02, 2010, 07:07:28 AM »
Hi, upon stripping my C15 engine, I noticed the primary drive tensioner was missing. :-\

My question is; would there be a reason for this ??? or is it someone has had the engine apart before and not bothered putting it back in? I have managed to get hold of one;  ;D good old ebay. but would I be right putting it in once I start to rebuild it.

She is a dizzy type from 1960. Thanks.

Hi,
Several of my C15's have not had chain tensioners and have been quite happy without them.  It has seemed to be the earlier ones that i've owned that have been missing it.  I've had a dig around and haven;t been able to determine whether this was a later development.  Chain slack of around 1/4" on the upper run is the desired result.
Cheers
Nigel

My '61 never had one, or the mountings to fit one. Forget it.... ;)

According to Roy Bacons book - "BSA Gold Star and other singles the C15 started life without a tensioner but was added to the SS80 in 1961 and then to the C15.
