I have had two sets of exhausts from Armours and they were both very ill fitting  , even worse is that when you call them they treat you like an idiot !
How hard can it be to copy an original exhaust ?
Getting them un chromed was good advice but it drives me mad that they even need to be "tweaked" in the first place .

I don,t know about Armours but I bough BSA A10 pipes from Wassell, because they make them I though they would be right but they where miles out, I think that of all the reproduction old bike parts, exhausts must be the worst.

I always get them made, isn't there a city near you that has a pipebender or are we Aussies just lucky! What about all the custom bike pipe benders?Check out the adds in bike magazines. Much safer to take the bike to them and discuss with a picture exactly what you want. They usually have their own chromers too.

Some years ago I gave Armours patterns for a Triumph pre war single and a thirties Sunbeam M9. Their standard ones were wrong. They successfully manufactured pipes to my patterns and appeared grateful for the corrected patterns.

I recently returned and, guess what, they had reverted to the wrong Triumph pattern and had ceased to make Sunbeam ones because of so many complaints.  No recession in Bournemouth it would seem and there appeared to be zero interest in getting them right.

Just for a little balance, some years ago I went to Armours shop to pick up a complete exhaust system for a Triumph GP replica I was building. I wanted the so-called "cocktail shaker" silencers (which allowed race entrants to remove the rear cap and tailpipe from thier road bikes, and compete on the track) which could have lead to many problems.
I was invited to unwrap as many down pipes as I wished and pick the best chrome (they were all excellent).
Back home, the whole kit fitted millimetre perfect, AND the tail pipes pointed rearwards perfectly parallel to each other, and that ain't easy when the megga part is both tapered and pointing upwards.
100% satisfied with the service and parts received. I couldn't fault them.

Raise the subject of Armours at any VMCC then you'll get a 90% negative response. In fairness, the other 10% speak highly of them.
I've tried lots of places over the years and nowadays never go anywhere else but Aldens, near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. They only work in stainless and if they haven't made any for your model then they would need either a pattern or your bike, but Dennis - who owns the company - does all the manufacturing himself and he's passionate about quality and good fit. tehy're now the recommended supplier for several vintage clubs. I've no connection with them at all, other than as a very satisfied customer.
