1926 BSA Basket Case
« on: October 30, 2007, 09:56:51 PM »
Hello there,
I'm new here but I know a few of you from other bike sites. Given the name of the site I thought there might be some vintage experts who could help me. I've never owned a vintage machine,( oldest so far is my 1948 BSA A7) so I don't have a clue about prices for '20s bikes. I have been offered a 1926 BSA 3.49hp sidevalve basket case and would like to know what is a fair price for such a machine. There is no documentation for it as it has never been registered in UK. The seller used to live in Australia and brought the bike here in bits. It was an arid area of Oz so there is no  rot on any of the parts, just surface rust. The frame and forks seem in particularly good nick. As far as I can tell parts missing are handlebars, toolbox, chainguard and the rear brake shoe (dummy belt rim brakes). There are lots of surplus parts including magneto, carbs, gearboxes, bottom ends, top ends, a wheel and other minor cycle parts. There is also a parts book covering all the 1926 BSA models.

Don't know much about these bikes myself; but The Classic Motorcycle ran a series of articles on flat tankers and talked about their value.
Just "Google" 1926 BSA 3.49hp and loads of info should appear.

He posted that enquiry over five years ago. I should imagine he's decided if he wants it or not by now... ;)
