TR6
« on: March 20, 2007, 09:17:09 PM »
My neighbour has a Triumph Tr6.
The engine chassis number is TR65/SDU19864.

Is it a trophy !
what colour should it be and what type of tank badges should it have.

It is the twin carb model.
2 into one chrome exhust.

He has spent some money on it recently and I'm worried he might have been ripped off.  Thanks

If the number is actually TR6 SS DU19864? Then that would appear to identify it as a 1965 Trophy.
Does the year match the registration (if UK).

I cannot say for sure what the tank colour should actually be, but "Burnished Gold/Alaskan White" is listed in the 650 parts books for 1965, and also "Pacific Blue".

The tank badges I believe should be this style for 1965 (3 Gal shown):http://www.holdenmotorcycle.co.uk/productimages/096_768.jpg (image from the Holden catalogue):http://www.holdenmotorcycle.co.uk/viewProducts.asp?supergroup=&analysiscode=1805&groupname=Accessories&group=090

There were two different badge pairs, one set for the 3 (Imp.) gallon tanks and another set for the 4 (Imp) gallon tanks.

1965 machines (650cc) were from DU 14226 to DU 23732 and sported the "mouth-organ" style tank badge. Colour scheme was Burnished Gold and Alaskan White with black lining. Guards were Alaskan White with Burnished Gold centre stripe, with black coachlines.
Les, Pacific Blue is for the Bonneville.

Thanks Hugh, as the 1965 parts book does not mention which colour belongs with which model or if it was used on more than one model ("Black" and "Silver" also being mentioned but again -no model info).

The 1965 parts book lists production from engine No. DU 13375 (or does DU 14226 refer specifically to the start of TR6 production?).
