This pic was taken in the early 1950's I believe this is a friends father
I have searched and searched trying to identify, if anyone can help me find out what it is,

I suspect we're talking 1949-50 Jawa 350cc two-stroke twin. Lots of examples in the internet, including some in the photos section of this site: http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/pictures/1949-jawa-350cc/#.Ud5qT6wcWCk  The South Australian agent must have been quite successful, as there are lots of survivors here.

The Adelaide (South Australia) agent was Sven Kallin: this advert is from November 1949.
